Let families use the Child Care Subsidy for a broader range of options, including care by grandparents, nannies, au-pairs and co-working spaces that keep children close.
Right now, subsidies mostly flow to centre-based daycare, funnelling taxpayer dollars into for-profit operators, some of whom compromise quality and safety. Many families are left with no choice but this model, despite cost-of-living pressures.
This one-size-fits-all approach limits workforce participation, especially for women, and places unnecessary strain on households.
